Kristina Leko was born in Zagreb, Croatia, in 1966. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1990. She then went on to study philosophy and Indian studies at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zagreb from 1990 to 1995. In 1995 she attended the Advanced Course of Visual Arts (held by Joseph Kosuth) at the Fondazione Antonio Ratti, Como. Leko obtained an MA at the Institut für Kunst im Kontext, Universität der Künste in Berlin in 2004.
Among her long list of fellowships and stipends are P.S.1 Moma International Studio Program, New York (2002/2003), ACC Galerie, Weimar (2004), Office of Contemporary Art, Oslo & Atelier Nord, Oslo (2005).
Kristina Leko has received several awards, including the "Josip Račić" Fine Art Award, Zagreb (2004) and the Kunstpreis Europas Zukunft, Leipzig (2005).
She has held many solo exhibitions, solo projects and presentations. She has also participated in a number of national and international group exhibitions and festivals, such as In search of Balkania, Neue Galerie, Graz (2002), Breaking away, P.S.1-Moma, New York (2003), New Video New Europe, Tate Modern, London/Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2004).
She lives and works in Cologne and Zagreb.
